Carter Vail is known or his viral short videos of humorous and ridiculous songs. At least that is how I heard of him. He came up on my Instagram feed around 6 months ago and I have yet to get his songs out of my head. He recently released an EP in mid-October called Coydog inspired by 2010s indie pop. This EP brought on The Coydog Tour wrapping up in Nashville, Tennessee at Fogg Street Lawn Club.
Arts Fishing Club, an indie-folk band who also has social media experience, is widely known for their viral stage performance. During the last song, the tour manager comes on stage with a barbeque grill and tosses freshly cooked hotdogs to members of the audience in a true father fashion. The band collectively has a huge energy and leaves the crowd excited – even without the grill master present.
This is my first time seeing Carter Vail and catching a show at Fogg Street Lawn Club. Having lived in Nashville for a bit of time, it felt like a perfect place for him to finish the last night of The Coydog Tour. For those who have yet to see the Fogg Street Lawn Club stage; it is a lawn with a large stage set on top of a pub. A concert with a skyline view of the city is something I believe everyone should experience at least once. Two moments of the show stuck out to me. Carter Vail pulled a classic rockstar move jumping onto speakers between the stage and crowd multiple times throughout the show to get a closer connection with the audience. The most memorable moment from the show was the collection of his viral TikTok songs he performed in addition to the songs from Coydog.
Giving the opportunity, I would watch Carter Vail perform again and again. The social media personality translates seamlessly to his stage presence. I would happily exit out of TikTok and walk into another one of his concerts. For fans of The Happy Fits, almost monday, and Post Sex Nachos; you will love Carter Vail.
