GRAMMY-winning artist Madison Cunningham is set to release her third studio album, “Ace,” on October 10.
The new album marks a turning point for Cunningham, acting as a vessel as she dives into her experiences — moving through the throes of heartbreak, finding acceptance and healing, and eventually beginning anew.
Coming together in just two months, "Ace" is an intimate portrait of self, with Cunningham laying her heart bare to listeners. At °1824’s press conference, she opened up about how her past work was written mostly from a place of observation, whereas this record transitions into her actual experiences with heartbreak. As a result, she noted that she knew making this record “... was going to change the way and kind of artist I was, and there’s a real possibility of losing touch of everything. The biggest challenge was not being afraid, or nervous, to sing about it all.”
Ultimately, it’s only natural for listeners to expect a departure in her approach to this album compared to her earlier works, given the personal nature of its content. Rather than relying on sonic structure and form, Cunningham shifted her focus to getting her thoughts and feelings out. While the album seemingly takes shape on its own, she still feels deeply connected to its final form.
“I feel proud, it feels like one fabric from beginning to end,” Cunningham says.
