If there was one word to describe my first time seeing Moonroof in concert, it would be “electric”. This past weekend, I had the pleasure of seeing Moonroof, a Philadelphia based indie rock band that is no stranger to the Underground Arts stage. They are currently on a seven date winter tour performing through Pennsylvania and surrounding states. This being my first Moonroof show I only had two things to go off of. One, how much I love listening to their music loudly in the car and hoping it would translate on stage. And two, my friends telling me “you’re in for a treat”. Moonroof was accompanied by two spectacular opening acts that seem to fit the bill perfectly.
We started off the night with Philly’s up-and-coming powerhouse Anthony Winters. A voice for pop music with rock and jazz influences, Anthony pulled up with a full band (yes, including a saxophone). He performed some crowd favorites along with new songs from his debut EP What We Can’t Change, including my personal favorite Rocks At Your Window. The way Anthony commands the stage the minute he walks out assures you that you’re in for a good time. He even did a cover of Avril Lavigne’s Complicated, which we all couldn’t help but scream along.
Next up we had Saint Friday. A band I had only heard about through friends, but had never delved into on my own. And boy oh boy is this band a gem. I’m actually glad that my first impression of them was a live set because of how I was able to witness the crowd and the band’s essence in a room. I feel like Underground Arts was the perfect venue because of how intimate their music feels to the audience. My favorite tracks by Saint Friday are a toss up between Bullet or Hurts from their 2026 EP titled Faking.
Remember what I said about “You’re in for a treat“? I couldn’t have agreed more. Moonroof blew me away from start to finish. I was so happy I got to talk with them and snap a few photos backstage before seeing their set, as it really added to the experience of how great these guys are. They had the crowd in the palm of their hand until the lights went up. One of my favorite things about live music is the passion you see artists put into their performances, and this night was no exception. Watching them interact with the crowd while they danced the night away made the night even better. I can officially say I’m on the Moonroof train and can’t wait until I get to see them live again. There are a few more dates left of this tour run in early March and April. If you’re in Pennsylvania or Ohio be sure to catch Moonroof at a venue near you! Tickets are available now on their official website HERE!
