On Thursday, March 12th, Erra’s co-headlining tour with Currents, "The Silence That Follows," landed in Nashville, TN at the Brooklyn Bowl. The show was opened by Swedish metalcore band Aviana and British rock band Caskets, who both fired up the crowd with electrifying performances, setting the tone for the evening. Next was Currents, a metalcore band from Newton, CT, who mesmerized the crowd with their heavy instrumentals and airy vocals.

Finishing off the night was Erra, a metalcore band from Birmingham, AL. They recently released a new record, "silence outlives the earth," on March 6th. The album blends the band’s iconic grungy sound with moments of dreaminess. The softer instrumentals and soothing vocals included provide a distinction to some of their heavier sounds. This new record explores heavy themes and contemplates the current state of the world, doing so in a way that feels almost ethereal.

Erra's setlist for the night incorporated a mix of songs old and new, serving as a perfect introduction for newcomers, while still delivering fan-favorites such as “Gungrave” and “Snowblood.”

Something Erra pulls off incredibly well is their mix of clean and unclean vocals. Utilizing two vocalists for the task is an excellent choice--Jesse Cash's hypnotic tone contrasts perfectly with JT Cavey's gritty growls. This lends to a unique and polished sound that really compliments their intricate instrumentals.

Additionally, the band’s light show was also a stand-out. The lights were colorful and flashy and synced to the beat of the music. It would have been easy to become overwhelming, but the lighting design incorporated moments of stillness that allowed the crowd to breathe before firing back up.

Though the crowd was already headbanging and singing along, with a little bit of prompting from JT, they started mosh pits and sent crowdsurfers flying to the front. The energy in the room was palpable, and it only grew the longer the band played.

Any chance to see Erra live is a treat, and tonight was no exception. Between the band’s well-mixed sound, their non-stop energy as they performed, and a top-notch setlist, this show will definitely be one I remember.
