From across the pond, The Last Dinner Party brought the From The Pyre Tour to the Masonic Temple on Sunday and gave Detroit the performance of a lifetime. Coming off the release of their sophomore album, From The Pyre, the art rock band set out on their headline North American tour before opening for Sombr and Olivia Rodrigo later this year. Comprised of lead singer Abigail Morris, guitarist Lizzie Mayland, lead guitarist Emily Roberts, bassist Georgia Davies, and Aurora Nishevci on keys, they created a set destined to be played in a historic church, complete with arches, ivy, a bird chandelier, and a large bell, fulling immersing the crowd in the world of The Last Dinner Party.

Opener: Automatic

Kicking off the night was rock group Automatic. From Los Angeles, the group blended heavy bass, ear-catching synths, and head bobbing drum beats that were perfect to get the crowd ready for the night ahead. Their set list kept the crowd engaged from the beginning to the end, and without much chatter in between tracks their songs effortlessly flowed into one another.

From the moment the lights went down, the show transformed into a theatrical performance. Opening with “Agnus Dei” from their latest album perfectly set the tone for the rest of the set. I have had the pleasure of seeing The Last Dinner Party before at Lollapalooza in 2024. They put on an incredible performance then, but nothing compares to having them fully immerse you in their world during a headline show. Every instrumental, vocal, and dance move was delivered with emotion and intention. The set list featured a wide range of songs from both of their studio albums like “Count The Ways”, “Feminine Urge”, and their most popular song “Nothing Matters”, during which Morris urged the crowd to put their phones away and remember the present. The crowd chanted for more moments before the band returned to the stage for an encore that included a choreography lesson for “This Is The Killer Speaking”. Closing out the set with a reprised version of “Agnus Dei”, the show came full circle leaving the crowd wanting the set to begin over again.

The Last Dinner Party puts on an incredible performance that just gets better and better every time. I absolutely urge everyone to give this band a chance if you have never heard of them. They have also partnered with different charities across the country during this tour, selling custom ribbons and donating the proceeds to food banks in each city they perform in, giving you yet another reason to show your support.

This show is one to remember and there are many more chances for you to catch The Last Dinner Party in a city near you! And don’t forget to check out their newest album From The Pyre!
