The SoCal weather set the perfect mood for a special evening in West Hollywood. The Roxy, one of my favorite venues and a place I hold close to my heart, hosted the opening night of Peter McPoland’s “Big Lucky” Tour. And this show really lived up to its name. It was also his 25th birthday.

From the moment I stepped inside, the energy was electric. Fans filled the pit wearing birthday hats, holding handmade signs, and passing around notes that read “Happy Birthday Babe,” which everyone later held up during “Good Day.” If I had known it was his birthday show, I would’ve brought the Leonardo DiCaprio cake myself.

Peter took the stage with explosive, infectious energy that spread through the room instantly. He opened with “The Song” from his new album Big Lucky, a perfect choice that got the crowd moving right away. He also debuted several new tracks including “Look It’s Your Boyfriend,” “What Do You Do To Me,” and “Roll Away My Stone,” all met with the kind of excitement that only a first-night crowd can bring.

He stomped around the stage to the beat, completely locked in with the music, and for a moment I felt like I was drowning in the flashing lights.

Some of the best moments came when Peter let his playful, unfiltered side shine. At one point, after a fan shouted “I love you,” he replied, “You don’t even know me,” sending the crowd into laughter. Later, he spent a full five minutes playing Bop-It into the microphone to an eerily quiet audience, somehow keeping everyone completely entertained.

Hearing “Digital Silence” live for the first time was another standout moment. The crowd’s energy during that song felt magnetic. It was one of those shows that reminds you why live shows matter.

The night ended in true Peter McPoland fashion. After fans begged for one more song, he simply shook his head dramatically, leaving the crowd laughing and cheering as the lights came up. It was a chaotic, heartfelt, and unforgettable start to the “Big Lucky” Tour and an even better way to celebrate Peter’s 25th birthday.

Peter McPoland.
