After almost seven years, Khalid has finally returned to Phoenix, Arizona, for his It’s Always Summer Somewhere tour, celebrating his newest album, After The Sun Goes Down, along with many of his older tracks. To start off the show, Khalid had the amazing girl group 3Quency open for him.
As the concert started, I immediately noticed how clear and powerful Khalid's voice is. It sounds exactly like it does on the radio, and honestly, not many people have that kind of talent sometimes. He has an incredible tone that I just can't get enough of. I also loved the consistency of the setlist, as he blended his newest songs with tracks all the way back to the American Teen era. One thing I really appreciate about Khalid is how genuine he is. He truly shows love to his fans and constantly lets them know that he sees and appreciates them.
Let me just say, Khalid has some moves. The way he performs and moves around with his dancers is so fun and incredibly entertaining. He expressed how liberated and free this new album has made him feel, both as an artist and as a person, especially during pride month. He also highlighted the importance of it.
Khalid brought out two fans he had met during the meet and greet to sit and sing with him. They were sisters, and Khalid's music was something they had always listened to. He loved hearing that and asked what first introduced them to his music. Later, he performed “Cold Blooded,” “Coaster,” and "Saved” from his very first album, American Teen, mentioning that he wrote them when he was just 17 years old.
I always love hearing what inspires artists: the when, where, and how of their journey. Khalid performed songs like “Fast Car” as part of sharing what inspired him to become the artist he is today.
