flipturn at Iroquois Amphitheater

Iroquois Amphitheater, Louisville, KY

There are few bands that have left such a lasting impression on me. The kind that keeps me coming back constantly to their music, their social media, their websites, and even their live shows. Flipturn is one of those bands. With their distinctive vocals and impressive on-stage presence, it’s no wonder they have won over audiences across the country and are well on their way to doing the same around the globe. Currently on the second run of their Burnout Days Tour, they continue to prove why they’re a band you don’t want to miss.

On Friday night, flipturn brought their energy to Louisville’s Iroquois Amphitheater, where their music met the summer air and open sky. The amphitheater itself was stunning, and without a doubt, the most beautiful outdoor venue I’ve ever been to. Odie Leigh opened the night with their indie-folk, heartfelt sound, drawing the crowd in and setting the perfect atmosphere before flipturn took the stage. I admired how naturally they connected with the audience and how confidently they commanded the stage. I even left the show with a few of their songs added to my playlist!

As flipturn took the stage, it was clear this is where they were always meant to be. From flipturn’s fan traditions, to the song chants, to crowd involvement, it all felt like a shared experience that only they could create. Standing there, I found myself comparing this show to the one I saw in Indianapolis during the last leg. Even though I was in different seasons of my life for each show, I still connected deeply with their music, just in different ways. That ability to resonate with their audience across time is something truly unique for an artist to hold.

The setlist featured classics like “Chicago,” “Nickel,” and “Burnout Days,” but the moments I anticipated most were “Right?” and “Swim Between Trees.” On stage, both songs carried an intensity you can’t quite capture in the recordings. “Right?” seethed with grit and frustration, while “Swim Between Trees” carried a conversational rhythm, almost like spoken poetry woven into song.

I left the show certain that I could see this band perform a million more times and never grow tired of it. For those eager to experience the band—and maybe even be able to say, “I knew them before they blew up”, now’s the time. Flipturn is continuing their Burnout Days Tour overseas with their largest run of European and UK shows. You can find the full list of tour dates and tickets on their official website, here.
