Troye Sivan has released yet another album that proves he knows exactly what he wants - and he isn’t afraid to ask for it. The Australian indie-pop singer released his fourth studio album, She's The Best, following the hype of the singles “Party” and now the title track, "She's The Best.” This album really solidifies his position in the indietronica, synth-pop genre, bringing a new party at every turn.
When I reviewed Troye’s previous album, Something to Give Each Other, I wrote about the themes of fully embracing his sexuality and feeling comfortable in how he presents it. If that album was Troye getting comfortable, then She’s The Best is him making himself right at home. He sings about lustful desires and explicit nights while still bringing out the emotion behind all that passion. If a track isn’t explicitly about sex, there’s at least a mention of it somewhere, and let me tell you, it is seeping with passion. The title track is the only one that strays from this theme, serving as an homage and love letter to the women in Troye’s life who have impacted him and helped mold him into the person he is today.
Cohesiveness is something that always shines through when Troye creates a new project. The songs on She’s The Best complement each other in a way that creates an addictive energy, leaving you wanting to hit repeat as soon as the album ends. The blend of electronic beats and synth-pop melodies carries throughout the record, tying everything together while still allowing each track to bring its own personality to the party. The music videos rolling out with the album's release match this, bringing creative and lively energies that match the track's unique personalities.
Standout tracks on the album are “Canada Dry” and “Troye Meets World.” These songs meld key aspects of the album’s soundscape, highlighting the infectious energy that runs throughout the record. Both feel right at home in Troye’s ever-evolving sound, balancing dance-ready production with the sleek, atmospheric touches that make his music so recognizable. Like many tracks on the album, they embody sex, passion, and intimacy. Troye has a way of describing sexual yearning that pulls the listener in just a little too close for comfort. This might not be the album you put on for family dinner, but it’s definitely one you’ll want blasting at the club.
Troye has yet to announce a tour for this album, but he has shown promising signs of life performances in the future. Stream She’s The Best wherever you get your music and sign up for Troye’s mailing list to keep updated on the latest news.
