The Last Days of Summer Sound Like almost monday

Summer 2026 was missing one thing as it came to an end: a new album from summer indie-pop hit masters almost monday. Luckily, right as fall is coming around the corner, the San Diego group released their sophomore album THANK GOD ITS ALMOST MONDAY, and I’ll certainly give thanks for that.
The group has been releasing music and touring the world since 2020, and all those travels and experiences have amalgamated into a record that captures indie-pop at its pinnacle while still carving out its own identity through exciting layers, dynamic hooks, and jazzy rhythms. Their early radio hits “can’t slow down” and “sunburn” are sure to have some company soon.
When I think of almost monday, I immediately think of high-energy indie pop that creates the perfect summer soundtrack, and this album definitely delivers on that feeling. The opening title track sets the stage with a funky, almost jazzy pop sound that carries throughout the album. Heavy, high-funk basslines weave through multiple tracks, while the album’s jazzy undertones create a sense of transition, almost like the rise and fall of the season itself. It feels like the soundtrack to the end of a cozy, relaxing summer, when the warm days begin to fade and fall is just around the corner.
Track four, “no more regrets,” immediately stood out to me, with layers of jazzy basslines and driving piano that practically beg to get stuck in your head. That infectious energy carries into the following track, “superprism,” where lead singer Dawson Daugherty takes a more laid-back vocal approach. The contrast gives the song a breezy vibe, allowing the instrumentation to take the lead while keeping the album moving.
“leaving is easy” and “buzz” slow things down, featuring lighter acoustic guitar and almost ballad-like choruses. Across the album, the themes center around personal growth and finding optimism, but the record doesn’t really dip into anything more serious. Its lightheartedness makes it an easy listen for a casual afternoon, the kind of album you can put on to keep the vibes rolling.
As fall settles in, almost monday will be taking the album on the road across the U.S. this upcoming season. THANK GOD ITS ALMOST MONDAY feels like a fitting soundtrack for the transition, carrying some of summer’s warmth with it while looking ahead to whatever comes next. For anyone looking for an easygoing record to close out the season, this one is certainly worth a listen.
