Patrick Witkowski Hopes He's "Wide Awake" in His New Single

If you don’t know Patrick Witkowski, then you may recognize him from the covers of songs he uploaded on TikTok starting around 2022. He and his pink kids' guitar, plastered in stickers, would frequent my for you page, in which he would cover popular indie and grunge songs. Patrick first caught my attention with his many covers of songs by The Backseat Lovers, and while I enjoyed the homage, what really stood out to me was his voice. Since then, I’ve kept an eye on his solo career, and I think he’s entering an era where he can truly hold his own.

Patrick recently made a switch from indie rock to a more distorted, alternative sound, and this shift truly comes together in his most recent single, “Wide Awake.” “Something isn't feeling right / The colours flashing way too bright,” the single tells a story of reconciling with someone from your past, and not being certain if you can hold onto these new feelings of excitement. Patrick’s songs have truly great mixing for being a smaller artist, with a driving drumbeat seamlessly layered with a heavier grunge guitar sound, making the clean vocals stand out. “Wide Awake” is a positive step for Patrick into the modern alternative genre.
